The freight weight of a shipment is calculated according to its volume, its mass or the actual space it takes up on a pallet or in a load in the transport unit. Its secure and safe placement in the load space are also taken into consideration.

The freight weight of a shipment must always be included in the waybill if other goods cannot be loaded on top of the shipment or under it! Freight weights are determined as follows:

Cubic weight = 1 m³ = 333 kg
The cubic weight of the shipment is calculated by measuring and multiplying its length, width and height (L x W x H). The result is multiplied by its cubic weight (333 kg).

Pallet weights

Weight by load metre = 1 wlm = 1850 kg (length x width / 2,4 m)
The calculated weight of a shipment that takes up one load metre for the entire width and height of the load space Load metre will always be charged if goods cannot be loaded on top of the product and under it!

One FIN pallet space = 925 kg

Long objects
Surcharge according to Kaukokiito ”Service fees and freighting principles” when following lenghts are in question:

Lenght 2,51–3,99 m
Lenght 4,00–5,99 m
Lenght 6,00–9,99 m
Lenght 10,00–over m     

The consigner is obliged to inform the lenght of the goods in connection with the transport order. The sender should pack all round and long bars, pipes or rolls weighing over 40 kg so that they are prevented from unintentionally rolling during loading, transport and unloading.

Top-loading can be taken into account only if:

  • The parcels in a shipment can safely be piled up to 2,4 m (meaning that they have smooth surfaces and are durable and in good shape).
  • It is possible to load an individual parcel both on top of other goods and under other goods.
  • The height of the parcel/pallet does not exceed 1,20 m, and it is suitable for processing by machine.
  • The weight of the parcel is no more than 50% of the freight weight of the corresponding pallet space.
  • TDG-classified goods must never be top-loaded!

The driver is entitled to amend the freight weight if the freight weight provided by the sender is discovered to be inaccurate.
